Bill Asher Was An American Television Producer, Film Director And Screenwriter

He became prolific in the early years of television, directing or producing more than two dozen series. He is best known for his work on the popular television series “The Love Boat.” Asher died in 1990 at the age of 85. While he is perhaps best remembered for his screenwriting, Asher was also a prolific producer and director.

After leaving school at fifteen, Asher joined the Army Signal Corps, but the military life was proving for him. He was constantly at odds with his commanding officers. After the war, Asher moved into television, working as a writer and director. He made his TV directing debut in “Leather Gloves.” He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Asher, and 10 grandchildren and seven stepgrandchildren.

Asher had an early career in television, including directing “The Thin Man,” “Willy,” and “The Danny Thomas Show.” He also co-created Bill Asher “Bewitched” with Elizabeth Montgomery. Other notable TV projects include “Alice” and “Crazy.” And Asher also directed “The Patty Duke Show.”
